Controlling Your Email After It's Sent

Written by Andre Klaus

Once you've sent an email protected with PPAD encryption, you're not done managing it — you can track who's accessed it, adjust its encryption settings, and even revoke access entirely, all after the fact.

To get started, go to your Sent items in Gmail and click into the individual email you sent. You'll see three options: Insights, Settings, and Unsend.

1. Insights

Insights lets you track activity on your sent email, including:

  • Who has read the encrypted email body. Note that this only reflects people who have opened and decrypted the encrypted content — not simply opened the email itself.

  • File views and prints for any attachments included.

On Advanced plans, Insights also provides a page-by-page breakdown showing who viewed which pages of your encrypted document.

2. Settings

Settings lets you adjust your encryption settings at any time, even after the email has already been sent. This includes changes like allow forwarding, watermarking, screenshot protection, file expiry, and printing permissions.

For details on encryption settings see this article.

3. Unsend

Unsend revokes access to the encrypted email body and attachments for everyone, immediately cutting off further viewing.

If you change your mind, you can always reinstate access from this same screen.
