Improved data room export to overcome file path limitations

You may have encountered incomplete exports of data room files when the file names or folder paths are long. This can happen when

  1. You use descriptions in file names or folder names to provide context

  2. You organize files in multiple levels of nested folders, resulting in long paths

Such long file paths exceed the limits in some operating systems. This can lead to file corruption errors or the files cannot be opened. In the past, our system has skipped these files and you may need to update the file names or folder names individually to resolve the issue.

To resolve this issue, our system now detects whether your Digify data room exports contain files with paths that exceed the file path limit.

Here's a sample email if your data room has reached the file path limit:

You will be provided 2 options:

  • Download Original - Recommended for Mac or Linux users, as these operating systems support longer file paths. If you select this option, a ZIP file will be downloaded that retains the original file structure and full file names.

  • Download Shortened Path - Recommended for Windows users, as this will shorten each file path to 8 characters and add a unique number to it to avoid exceeding Windows’ file path length restrictions. An Index File is also provided for easy identification of files with their original paths.

For example, a file named "Financial Document.xlsx" will be automatically truncated to "FINANC~3".

This improvement addresses the challenges of long file path limitations while offering flexibility to users. You can now export your data rooms without worrying about the missing files.

Other updates

  • Fixed the bug where some users couldn’t export statistics from data room.
