Before sending a file with Document Security, you can decide whether or not to allow your recipient to download and/or print your file.

Note: If you enable download and/or print as well as Dynamic Watermark, note that your file will be converted to a watermarked PDF when your recipient downloads or prints the file.

If you want to allow your recipient to download the file in its original format, Dynamic Watermark must be disabled.

You can control download and/or print permissions for the following file formats:

  • PDF

  • Images (e.g. .jpg, .png)

  • Microsoft Office documents (e.g. .docx, .pptx, .xlsx)

  • Videos (Only for download)

How to enable/disable print or download with Document Security

Step1: From your dashboard, click on Send Files in the left sidebar.

Step 2: Click on the Upload button to select a file to send. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the file from your computer in the gray box.

You may also import files directly from your cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, Box and OneDrive).

Step 3: Under Permission, choose your desired Download and Print settings.

Note: If Allow download is selected, print is automatically allowed as we are unable to prevent recipients from printing the file after it has been downloaded to their device or computer.

If you select Allow Print, a new field will appear to allow you to specify the number of times you want to allow your recipients to print the file. If you leave this field blank, your recipients will be able to print the file as many times as they want.

Note: If you allow printing, our system will not be able to prevent recipients from printing to PDF from their browser as this browser feature is outside of our system’s control. If this is a concern, we would advise against allowing print. Alternatively, we strongly recommend adding watermarks to your file.

Step 4: Continue selecting your other preferred security settings.

Step 5: Once done, click on Send & notify recipients if you want to send your recipients an email notification with links to the files.

Otherwise, click on Get link & skip notification to get the links to the files to send to your recipients directly.
