One-time file links are links that can only be accessed by your recipient before the file's countdown timer ends. After the timer ends, your recipient will no longer be able to access the file.

How the countdown timer works

As the file owner, you will need to enable "Expire after opening" for the file. You can then set how long the recipient will have to view the file (in days, hours and/or minutes) before it expires.

The moment your recipient accesses the file via the one-time link, the countdown timer will start. When the timer lapses, your recipient will no longer be able to access the file via the link.

You can create one-time file links using "Expire after opening" for the following file formats:

  • PDF (.pdf)

  • MS Office documents (.doc, .ppt, .xls)

  • Images (.jpg, .png)

  • Videos (.mov, .mp4)

  • Audio files (.mp3, .wma, .wav)

How to create one-time links using "Expire after opening" setting

Step 1: From your dashboard, click on Send Files in the left sidebar. Upload the file that you want to send.

Step 2: Set your desired download and print permissions.

Note: If you choose "Download (PDF)", "Download (Original)" or "Print", your recipient will be able to download the file before the countdown timer ends. They will then be able to access the file on their computer or as a printed file, even after the online file has expired on Digify.

Under Expiry, select Expire after opening. Enter the number of days, hours, and/or minutes your recipients will have to view the file before it expires.

Step 3: Under Access, we recommend selecting "Only people I specify" or "Only people from domains I specify" for enhanced security.

If you select "Anyone with the link (no email verification)", and if you're sending the file to multiple recipients, once the file expires for the first recipient who accesses the file, it will no longer be accessible by other recipients. Read more

Step 6: Once done, click Send & notify recipients to send the one-time file link to your recipients via email.

Otherwise, click Get link & skip notification to copy the one-time file link. Your recipients will not receive any email notifications from Digify.
