How to exclude the file index from the names of your downloaded data room files

You'll need to turn off the File Index feature in your data room settings.

File Index is a data room feature that automatically assigns an index number to data room files. With File Index turned on, data room owners, co-owners and contributors can reorder the sequence of files in a data room.

When you download a file from a data room with File Index turned on, the file name will include its corresponding data room index number. For example, if Report.pdf had the index number 1.1.1 in the data room, upon downloading, its file name will be 1.1.1 Report.pdf.

If you wish to download data room files without the file index number included, follow the steps below.

Note: You'll need to be a data room owner or co-owner to complete the steps below — only a data room owner or co-owner can change the settings of a data room. Learn more about data room permissions

Step 1: Enter your data room. Click on Settings in the top-right.

Step 2: In the Data Room Settings page, scroll down until you find File Index. Click on the toggle so it is turned off.

Step 3: Click on Files to go back to your data room file directory. Download your desired data room file(s).
